I've never been particularly interested in solving a Rubik's Cube as a form of entertainment, but I have always wanted to know how they work mechanically.
-
Preliminary research into the internal construction of a 'Cube led to a disappointing number of YouTube videos showing someone blasting some kind of EDM while extruding nine mini-cubes, mating them all together, and calling it a Rubik's Cube.
-
Spoiler Alert - That's not how it works.
-
Fortunately the original patent design isn't difficult to find.
-
Unfortunately the original patent design is one coffee stained sheet that contains a bunch of isometric drawings and no dimensions. Still, it's several orders of magnitude more useful than the YouTube videos in this case.
-
The assembly needs to be designed without buying an actual Rubik's Cube and disassembling it. Internet resources only.
-
The final assembly needs to be fully functional and correctly mated.
